Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon)

Select an image

Ubuntu is distributed on two types of images described below.

Desktop CD

The desktop CD allows you to try Ubuntu without changing your computer at all, and at your option to install it permanently later. This type of CD is what most people will want to use. You will need at least 320MB of RAM to install from this CD.

This is a customised image with the following patches applied to the live filesystem:

ubiquity.ps3.diff
fix crash on entry to install stage on non-x86 systems
hal.ps3.diff
add support to HAL for ps3_system_bus devices

In addition, the /spu directory has been created in the live filesystem, the spu system group has been created, the ps3_gelic kernel module has been added to the initramfs, the boot loader has been adjusted to boot straight into the live CD installer by default (as the PS3 does not have enough memory as standard to run the live CD desktop and the installer simultaneously), documentation of the video=ps3fb:mode:* kernel parameter has been added to the CD boot loader, and the installer has been instructed to add a custom repository containing the above hal patch in order to facilitate future security updates.

There is one image available:

PlayStation 3 desktop CD
For Sony PlayStation 3 systems. (This defaults to installing Ubuntu permanently, since there is usually not enough memory to try out the full desktop system and run the installer at the same time. An alternative boot option to try Ubuntu without changing your computer is available.)

Alternate install CD

The alternate install CD allows you to perform certain specialist installations of Ubuntu. It provides for the following situations:

In the event that you encounter a bug using the alternate installer, please file a bug on the debian-installer package.

This is a customised image using the following patches:

hal.ps3.diff
add support to HAL for ps3_system_bus devices
kboot-installer.menu.diff
fix position of kboot-installer in installer main menu

In addition, the linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-14-cell_2.6.22-14.37_powerpc.deb package has been added, documentation of the video=ps3fb:mode:* kernel parameter has been added to the CD boot loader, and the installer has been instructed to add a custom repository containing the above hal patch in order to facilitate future security updates.

There is one image available:
