Ubuntu test images for bug 62986

These images are experimental fixes for bug 62986, which causes hangs during the installation process on some systems. Images are available for all of Ubuntu 6.06, Ubuntu 6.10, and Ubuntu 7.04, but only server and alternate images and only for the i386 architecture. Images for other flavours and architectures are not available at this time.
Please report successes or failures at fixing the specific problem in bug 62986 to that bug. Please report any other problems as separate bugs.
Server install CD
The server install CD allows you to install Ubuntu permanently on a computer for use as a server. It will not install a graphical user interface.
These are customised images with one of the following patches applied (depending on the version of Ubuntu):
- debconf.dapper-proposed.diff
- fix for Ubuntu 6.06
- debconf.edgy-proposed.diff
- fix for Ubuntu 6.10
- debconf.feisty-proposed.diff
- fix for Ubuntu 7.04
There are three images available:
- Ubuntu 6.06 PC (Intel x86) server install CD
- Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake). For almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors.
- Ubuntu 6.10 PC (Intel x86) server install CD
- Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft). For almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors.
- Ubuntu 7.04 PC (Intel x86) server install CD
- Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn). For almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors.
Alternate install CD
The alternate install CD allows you to perform certain specialist installations of Ubuntu. It provides for the following situations:
- creating pre-configured OEM systems;
- setting up automated deployments;
- upgrading from older installations without network access;
- LVM and/or RAID partitioning;
- installs on systems with less than about 128MB of RAM (although note that low-memory systems may not be able to run a full desktop environment reasonably).
In the event that you encounter a bug using the alternate installer, please file a bug on the debian-installer package.
